“...As we knew that document automation with ActiveDocs Opus-generated documents could meet all the new standards we decided to integrate it with all of our banking systems that need to create electronic or printed documents.”

Rolands Citajevs, CIO at ABLV

Introduction

ABLV Bank, AS is the largest independent private Latvian bank with international presence in more than half of the CIS countries (former Soviet Union republics), serving the quickly growing markets of Eastern Europe and Asia. Like many banks it utilizes multiple software applications to support its front- and back- office banking processes. In ABLV’s case each of these applications had some document generation capability, but they all worked differently and required individual management and maintenance. Adding further complication, some document types could be generated by more than one of the systems. Achieving consistent, compliant, and accurate document generation in this environment was difficult, expensive, and time-consuming.

A recent re-branding of the business added another significant problem for document generation. “We discovered that some of our document creation services did not meet the high standards required by our new document style,” said Rolands Citajevs, CIO. “As we knew that document automation with ActiveDocs Opus-generated documents could meet all the new standards we decided to integrate it with all of our banking systems that need to create electronic or printed documents.”

The Solution

ABLV integrated ActiveDocs Opus software with its existing banking systems, including ABLV’s core banking platform software Temenos T24, through a web services interface. When any of these systems requires a document, it is requested from the ActiveDocs Opus Document Automation Web Service.

Documents can be sent directly to a specified printer, or emailed to the user or customer, or the document can be downloaded by the requesting system for customized processing.

Templates for all document types are maintained and managed by business users solely in the role-based, permission-controlled ActiveDocs Opus Template Management repository, and these Templates are used by all banking systems that need to create documents.

Documents can be passed to the banks Document Management System and if necessary can also be accessed via the ActiveDocs Opus Express Wizard browser interface.

The Benefits

Different, expensive, overlapping or incomplete document generation capabilities in multiple systems are replaced with a single, central facility for all Template Management and Document Generation.

An easily-managed core of 40 ActiveDocs Opus Templates provides for all direct client requests, which can be delivered as PDF and stored in the bank’s Document Management System. An additional resource of some 20 ActiveDocs Opus Templates provides for the generation of various client documents from core-banking systems that need to be printed out and signed by customers.

Business users can maintain and manage Templates for document generation in their own business area, leveraging subject matter expertise.

Reduced IT involvement in document generation frees up IT resources for core functions.

All of the documents that the bank presents to its clients fulfill all of the bank’s standards.

How it Works

Templates for all document types are maintained and managed in one place in the ActiveDocs Opus Template Management system. Access is controlled by centrally-managed permissions so that business users can maintain Templates related to their business area.

Only the latest approved and published versions of Templates are available to the various banking systems.

When any of the banking systems requires a document, it passes a request to the ActiveDocs Opus Document Generation Web Service. The request is in XML format and specifies the details of the document to be created; the XML may also contain extra instructions for formatting, delivery, and storage of the document.

ActiveDocs Opus Delivery Management Module works with the bank’s existing print and email infrastructure so that, depending on the immediate requirement, the document can be sent directly to a specified printer, or emailed to the user or customer.

ActiveDocs Opus’ standard web services also allow the document to be downloaded by the requesting system if additional customized processing is required.
